چکیده

This paper deals with the study of machinability of GFRP composite tubes of different fiber orientation angle vary from 30 to 90. Machining studies were carried out on an all geared lathe using three different cutting tools: namely Carbide (K-20), Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) and Poly-Crystalline Diamond (PCD). Experiments were conducted based on the established Taguchi’s Design of Experiments (DOE) L25 orthogonal array on an all geared lathe. The cutting parameters considered were cutting speed, feed, depth of cut, and work piece (fiber orientation). The performances of the cutting tools were evaluated by measuring surface roughness (Ra) and Cutting force (Fz). A second order mathematical model in terms of cutting parameters was developed using RSM. The results indicate that the developed model is suitable for prediction of surface roughness and Cutting force in machining of GFRP composites.

A genetic algorithmic approach for optimization of surface roughness prediction model in turning using UD-GFRP composite

Machining of glass fiber reinforced plastic composite materials is an active area of research in current manufacturing processes. Achieving an improved surface finish is of high priority while machining the polymer based plastics composites due to the poor machinability of glass fibers. The present work deals with the study and development of a surface roughness prediction model for machining u...

Comparative Study of Damping in Pristine, Steel, and Shape Memory Alloy Hybrid Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic Composite Beams of Equivalent Stiffness

Several efforts were made over the years to control vibration of structural components made of composite materials. This paper consists of study on effect of using shape memory alloy (SMA) to increase the damping of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) composites. A comparative study between SMA and steel was made as reinforcement material in GFRP composites to enhance damping. Dimensions of e...

Fatigue analysis of glass fiber reinforced composites

Some structure materials can match the flexibility and effectiveness of glass fiber Reinforced plastic, commonly called GFRP for short or simply fiberglass. Even it is very high strength, light weight, strong, and completely waterproof, it can be molded into free form shapes such as aerospace structures, and then also it has its endurance limits. Endurance limit means loss of strength and stiff...

Experimental Study of the Flexural and Compression Performance of an Innovative Pultruded Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Polymer-Wood Composite Profile

The plate of a pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer or fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) profile produced via a pultrusion process is likely to undergo local buckling and cracking along the fiber direction under an external load. In this study, we constructed a pultruded glass-fiber-reinforced polymer-light wood composite (PGWC) profile to explore its mechanical performance. A rectangular cross-sect...

Effects of Glass-Fiber Reinforced Polymer and Waste Polypropylene Plastic Particles on Geotechnical Properties of Clayey Soils for Using Subgrade in the Pavement

The fine-grained soil including the problematic ones can cause many difficulties in project accomplishment. Settlement and swelling are among the problems of the fine-grained soils. The present study compared the effects of the polypropylene waste plastic (PWP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) on geotechnical properties of the clayey soils for the subgrade design. To this end, the PWP ...
